It is the 14th named storm so far this season.
Over 400,000 residents in the Houston area were without power early Tuesday morning after Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane. The storm initially maintained wind speeds of up to 75 miles per hour before it gradually weakened to a tropical storm after hitting the Texas Gulf Coast.
The National Hurricane Center said that heavy rainfall would continue to affect areas including the upper coast of Texas, all of Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, and far southern Alabama through the middle of the week. Storm surge and flash flood warnings have been issued for parts of the region.
Many areas of Louisiana are still without power from Hurricane Ida.
